The Right-Sized Life with Amy Schmidt
You've proven you're brave. You cannonballed into one chapter of your life and showed up fully — for your family, your career, your community, everyone who needed you. You did that. And it mattered.
Now you're asking a different question.
Not how do I do more? But does this still fit?
Welcome to The Right-Sized Life with Amy Schmidt — the podcast for women who are done maintaining the old life and ready to build the true one.
Every episode, Amy brings the honest conversation you've been waiting for — the one that sounds less like a self-help seminar and more like a glass of wine with your wisest friend. Real stories. Practical frameworks. Permission to let go of what no longer fits and make room for what actually does.
Because a right-sized life isn't about having less.
It's about having what fits — so when the moments that matter arrive, you are actually there for them.
Amy Schmidt is the founder of Fearlessly Facing Fifty, bestselling author of CANNONBALL! Fearlessly Facing Midlife and Beyond and the forthcoming The Right-Sized Life, TEDx speaker, and one of the most trusted voices in midlife women's media.
Go forth and live aligned. 🤍

EP2: From Cannonball To Calm: Building A Life That Fits Now
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Something shifts after the big midlife leap. You make the brave move, you do the hard thing, you prove you still have it and then you come up for air and realize the real question is quieter: does this still fit? That question is why Fearlessly Facing Fifty and Beyond is evolving into The Right Size Life. The show is not ending. The mission is not changing. I’m still authentically Amy. But the conversation is going deeper, into what it really takes to live aligned in this season.
I tell the story behind the rebrand through the “cannonball and the float” metaphor: the splashy reinvention, followed by the calm stretch where adrenaline fades and truth rises. We talk about empty nest transitions, shifting roles, and the ordinary moments that are real for so many. I share what it felt like to sell a house in 2 days, sort through decades of belongings, and sit with my mother’s handwriting on a storage unit floor, finally understanding that right-sizing is never just about stuff.
Then we name the work: right -sizing your home, your time, your energy, your relationships, and your identity. Not to become someone new, but to build a life that fits who you are now with everything you’ve learned and everything you’re still becoming. If you’re craving clarity, simplicity, and a grounded sense of purpose, press play and come with me. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a review so more women can find The Right Size Life.

Welcome And A Heartfelt Thank You
SPEAKER_00Hey, hi, it's me, Amy. And if you've been here before, if you've been listening to the Fearlessly Facing 50 podcast for any amount of time, first of all, thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You showed up, you listened, you shared episodes and sent messages and told me that something I said on a random Tuesday morning landed exactly when you needed it to. That means more to me than I will ever be able to say properly. And if you're brand new here, welcome. I am so glad that you found this and you found me. Okay, so I have something to tell you. Fearlessly facing 50 and beyond, the podcast is evolving. Not ending, not disappearing, not going anywhere in the ways that matter. The mission is the same, the audience is the same, the woman I'm talking to every single week. She hasn't changed at all. But I have, and the conversation has. So here's what happened. A few years ago, you know, I cannonballed into, I guess, midlife. And if you read my first book, Cannonball, Fearlessly Facing Midlife and Beyond, you know what I mean. Big energy, big splash, a little chaos, a lot of courage, and absolutely no graceful entry. It was about proving to myself that I still had it, that I could climb to the edge, ignore the voice that said, wait, you're not ready, and jumped anyway. I cannonballed. And I meant every single word of it. But here's what nobody tells you about the cannonball. After the splash, you know, you come up for air, and then there's the float. That quiet stretch of water where the noise settles and the adrenaline fades, and you find yourself just bobbing there. Floating, looking up at the sky, asking the question you were too busy cannonballing to ask before. Now what? Now what? That question arrived for me in the most ordinary of moments, not in dramatic realization. In the time in between, folding laundry, reheating my coffee for the third time, standing in a room I'd walk into without a purpose I had already forgotten. The kids were gone, grown and flown, the roles were shifting, and something I hadn't planned for showed up in the space they left behind. A question: Does this still fit? Not just the house, though we did sell that in two days, and yes, I cried in the kitchen counter and not just the stuff. Though I did clear three storage units across three states and sat on a concrete floor holding my mother's handwriting and understood something I hadn't before. The question was bigger than any of that. Does this still fit? The life I'm living, the roles I'm playing, the version of myself I keep showing up as. And the answer, the honest one, was some of it does and some of it doesn't. That's where this show is born. The right size life is the next chapter of this conversation. Same woman, same mission, same commitment to showing up honestly and talking about the things that actually matter in this season. But we're going deeper now. Into the work of right sizing. I love that word. When I thought of it and I said it out loud, it just made sense. Right sizing not just your home or your stuff, but your time, your energy, your relationships, your identity into the stories and the frameworks and the real. Lived sometimes messy, always meaningful process of building a life that actually fits who you are right now. Not who you used to be. Not who anyone expects you to remain, who you actually are in this season at this moment, with everything you've learned and everything you're still becoming. That's what we're talking about here. And I could be probably not more excited to have you with me for this. Okay, before I let you go, I have two things I need you to do right now. Like, right now, like, don't wait until later because I know how that is. We both know what happens when we say to do it later. Number one, if you're not already signed up for the Radiant Woman reset, this is your week to do it. Go ahead and do that today. It's completely free. It runs all month through the beautiful chaos of what I'm calling mayhem. Four weeks physical reset, emotional reset, mental reset, purpose reset. Small intentional steps. One honest decision at a time to help you feel more like yourself inside your own life. The link is in the show notes, so go sign up. Your future self will thank you. And number two, the right size life. The book is coming my second book. I'm so excited and I want you to be the first to know when it lands. Get on the list. Again, the link will be in this notes. The snow notes. Not the snow notes, the show notes. Take 30 seconds. That's all it takes. Do it while you're walking or driving or folding laundry. I know that's when you listen to this. And follow along on socials. Instagram and Facebook. Instagram is theAmy.schmidt, S-C-H-M-I-D-T. Facebook is at Fearlessly Facing50. That's where the daily conversation lives. That's where I show up and tell you about the tangled headphones in my backpack and the lessons from the storage unit floor and the real, honest, occasionally ridiculous moments of living this out loud. I also have a Substack. So if you're a Substack reader, go ahead and find me. I'm so glad you're here. Whether you've been with me since the beginning or you literally just found this today, you are exactly on time. There's no behind in this conversation. This is a no-judgment zone. There is only where you are right now and where you're headed. And where you're headed is a life that fits. So let's go build it. I used to say go forth and be awesome. Now I say go forth and live aligned. And maybe check the top of your head for your glasses first. Because that's where mine always are. I'll see you next episode. And thanks for subscribing. Thanks so much for joining me today on The Right Size Life. If this episode resonated with you, I hope you'll share it with someone who may need a little encouragement, clarity, or inspiration in this season of life. And don't forget to subscribe.
